Baseball diamonds were not as regular as they are today; I believe many infields were just dirt. It's quite possible those are just a line of trees past the outfield of whatever park they were playing at.
Take a look at the Postcards thread that gets popped to the first page every once in a while to see the variety of fields during the 1880s.
