Will Eisner, one of the biggest names in comics (one of the industry's awards is named after him) and best known for the character The Spirit, published a comic book called
Baseball Comics in 1949.
The main character is the fictional Rube Rooky, but there's a two-page text feature, "The '49 Recruits," profiling a number of rookies, including Richie Ashburn, Gene Woodling, and Alvin Dark. There's also a 4-page comics story by Jules Feiffer, "The Sunday Ride of Babe Herman."
