Leon,
I must have viewed this photo you have at least a dozen times or so and it gets more fascinating every time. Ione, California around that time was part of the mining Gold Rush boom. Are your thoughts that these gentleman are wearing some sort of Knights Templar attire? I also can see they are wearing some sort of work shoes....possibly from the large Railroad Hub? The gent on the far left has an unusual costume and hat. I also see what I believe is an American Flag staked in the ground and blowing in the wind on the far left? That town seem to only have about 7-800 folks living there around 1890.
As we all seem to be Dog Lovers......I really like seeing the Mascot near the front ( and I'm sure that added to you collecting it ).
Anyhow........Thanks for posting it. Wonderful-Very Interesting Photo.
Regards, Tom
P.S. I Rarely ( that is an understatement ) post but I met you at the Philly Valley Forge Show and showed You and Dan McKee my T206 cards with the Purple Back Stamps. Enjoyed meeting you and I for one hope you make your way back East again soon.
