Back in the early Nineties a teammate told me that for a small fee I could send my old Sixties childhood mitt to Rawlings - Brooks Robinson model for my southpaw self.
That glove had seen a lot of infield dirt and outfield grass. Came back with most of the work being new stitching, and smelling almost brand new. Not sure how they did that. Maybe out of an aerosol can because I couldn't detect any trace of oiling.
