I am not convinced this is a 1954 ticket.
The excellent PSA article referenced above provides detail about tickets from 1933 - 1947. So, I am not sure what in that article points one to a date of 1954 for this ticket. It does mention however that the Giants used the same printer(s) as the Yankees and employed the same lettering concept.
Combining this with information from another website which helps identify Yankees tickets (
http://keymancollectibles.com/tickets/grandstand.htm), we can see some important factors worth considering:
Although the tax in 1954 was .21, that amount was in effect from 1946 through 1954.
During the years in which the tax was .21, the wording on the "tax" line changed a few times. On the ticket we are discussing, the tax line reads "Tax Paid". This wording was in effect from 1946 - 1951.
The reverse of the ticket shows the name of the printing company as "Printed in N. Y. C. Brown Ticket Corp.". According to the "Keymancollectibles" info (Step 5), that matches the wording the company used from 1941 - 1946. However, further down the web page he shows that Brown Ticket Corp. was used in 1947 too.
These three pieces of information lead me to a date of 1946 or 1947.
Now, what about the letter "D" under the game No.? Here's where things get more speculative. The PSA article defines the lettering for 1933 - 1943 and says no letter was used in 1944.
Assuming that they restarted the lettering in 1945 and that they started with ""B" because they skipped 1944 (like they started with B in 1934), that would make 1946 "C" and 1947 "D".
I have spoken to David Shakir, the co-author of the PSA article about Yankees tickets in the past, and I seem to recall that he mentioned they did restart the lettering sequence, but I do not recall the details. He's a N54 member, so maybe he will see this thread and chime in.
All this being said, I think I have to cast my lot with 1947, with a possible nod to 1946. Unless I am missing something that the others have seen which strongly indicates 1954, in which case I take it all back
