Default 1926 WS Baseball

I recently picked up this National League baseball. On the ball it appears that the Yankees and Cardinals rosters are written. I can see Gehrig and Ruth and some of the pitchers, Pennock, Jones, Braxton. For the Cardinals roster I can make out Haines, Holm, Southworth. On the other panel it says New York Yankees Vs St. Louis Cards.

My question is could this ball have been used during the 1926 World Series. I know w/o the provenance it would be hard to say if it was used but was it common for a fan to write on baseballs back then? I appreciate any info and any interesting conversations about this topic.

Thanks again,
Ron
