Just took a look at the two 3s referenced on eBay. Of course it's all personal, but a collector seeking an example with rare eye appeal and centering for the grade would likely consider those two examples average to low-end, at least from a centering perspective. Neither example would attract the type of picky buyer willing to pay a big premium for an above average example in the grade.
Even though those two cards say "3" on their holders and the one that went for 25k also says "3," the 25k PSA 3 was a very, very different card-- hence why our fellow board member happily paid what he did for it. Apples and elephants, IMO. Looking at them together, I can see why one flew off the shelf at 24k, so to speak-- a waterfront property, to borrow that great phrase-- while the other two sit on the shelf at their offered prices.
