I have not studied the White Sox cards per se. PSA lists a master set at 490. Huggins and Scott not long back sold what it called a Super set of 579, and I know some have identified more since then

The H&S super set includes a bunch of what many would call recurring print defects rather than true variations. Many of the variants result from DPs, including the Mantle, Thompson and Robinson, which have front and back differences. The Kretlow is listed in many "master" sets, including the Super set. There are even front differences on the same black or red back versions of the first series, the Boone card being a good example.

And I do not think that there has been a full scale look at the high card series for differences because of the scarcity and expense, although the "Canadian" gray backs have become even more expensive than the high number cards. And, just how may House versions are there ?

There are some 52 master set discussion threads in here
