Fun Resarch:
I was watching the 2001 movie 'In the Bedroom' tonight and, at one point a game was being broadcast over the car radio. I recognized a few names and when right to work with BBR box scores:
The movie was set in Candem, NJ and the announcer gave the score as Red Sox 7 Braves 2.
They mentioned Galarraga (of the Braves) & a throw-over to first to try and get Daubach off base. The announcer was talking about Nomar and mentioned that no Boston player had hit 3 homers in game since Trot Nixon.
Since Galarraga played only 2 years with the Braves (1998,2000), I used him as my first link to the game, checking his Game log for 2000 and then for games in Boston in which the Braves lost.
I found July 9 to be the magic date.
With the box score for that day's game, play-by-play was also included on BBR.
Obviously, the broadcasted juncture of the game had to be after Nomar had hit 2 homers, so I found the bottom of the sixth inning:
Daubach - Single
Garciaparra - Groundout / FC / 3rd out.
Pretty Cool Huh??!!
How many game broadcasts (radio) or telecasts (television) can you pin down to this detail?
