1917 New York Giants Polo Grounds Panoramic Photograph**SOLD**
Here is a panorama that could definitely benefit from some restoration. It is from the May 30, 1917 Memorial Day Double Header between the New York Giants and the Philadelphia Phillies at the Polo Grounds. The photo indicates Decoration Day, 1917 at the bottom which is a reference to the previous name used for Memorial Day in the United States.
As shown in the scans the photograph exhibits numerous vertical cracks and portions are missing from the left and right ends of the panorama. The panorama measures 8.5 inches and is 42 inches long at the longest point. It probably used to be 44 inches or so long. For the little part that is left on the right side I can see the right white border but there was probably a few inches more originally on the left side. The panorama will not lay flat at all without items setting on top of it as shown in the pictures. Otherwise it completely curls up. There is a picture below of it rolled up below. The small remaining portion on the right side is held on with archival tape.
Despite the obvious condition flaws, the central image displays very well with great crisp detail and clarity. With magnification you can read the writing on the scoreboard and the advertising on the outfield walls. Given its length at 42inches, several inches could be cropped from each side and you would still have a large panoramic photo.
Item will be shipped rolled. Price **SOLD**.
