What are your thoughts on the year for this signed rookie I have? I'm thinking rookie year or year two, but can't pin it down.

That has to be an early sig. I cannot say specifically which year, but I would definitely say pre Twins and very early. According to PSA autograph facts, the signature matches very well against a 1955 version they have posted. Very nice example.
