While I agree with you about not buying a card based on it getting into a higher grade holder, I wouldn't completely dismiss the possibility. I know there will be at least a few cards in our upcoming auction (still taking consignments, shameless plug
) that are in quite old holders and are indeed great candidates. The consignors didn't care about the holders and feel that with large scans the cards will sell themselves; I agree. But to buy a card thinking it will definitely bump up is not a wise strategy long term.
