Brent,
What really keeps me going is the hunt. Not necessarily for my collection, but uncovering something and flipping it to the right owner. I can honestly say that I don't do it for the size of the profit (and to date I've never had a loss), but rather the thrill of the find. I have made as little as a few dollars, up to hundreds, but a lot of things I sell are at a price where the buyer either gets a good deal for their collection or can flip themselves.
I try not to limit myself to sports. I try to have a broad knowledge of value, desirability, and my ability to find a buyer. Every day I comb the online listings for local auctions for
some reason to go. A lot of times it is a strikeout. But sometimes it's a grand slam! (Today there is a possible type I of a 30's minor league team)
I don't really know your situation or general interests. I am a junkie of all of that Antiques Roadshow/Pawn Stars/American Pickers type of shows. I love going to the fleas/auctions/antique malls. At this point when I pick up something for myself, it is a bonus. I realize this may not happen if you are a very specialized collector.
Now I am
pumped! I have two previews to get to today!
Hopefully some of this made sense. Either way, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
