David, I'm pretty sure the pic you have is not of WaJo. WaJo was a very good hitting pitcher (he was often used as a pinch hitter), and in the few pics I have seen of WaJo batting, he is not choking up on the bat handle. Here's a pic of WaJo batting that I obtained from his grandson:
