FS-1939 Lonny Frey Spalding Termination Letter
Really cool piece that is a must for the Red's fan...
Letter is dated September 19, 1939 from D.K. Field from AG Spalding & Bros.
The letter is a notice of Spalding terminating theif contract with Frey for the use his his signature on their merchandise...
There is a response on the letter (I assume in Frey's hand) which hastily has circled the word termination, and added the response: "SENT TO HILLERICH AND BRADSBY-HENRY MORROW ALONG WITH AGREEMENT FOR MY MODEL BATS"
frey was a serviceable second baseman who enjoyed a solid career (most notably with the reds). He was a 3 time Allstar & managed to win a pair of world champinoships. What amazes me most is that Spalding discontinued their relationship shortly after Frey finished up one of his best seasons: 1939 which also turned out to be an allstar campaign...
