Up for sale here we have a Wright & Ditson meeting minutes document dated June 27, 1923.
Present at the Meeting were:
George Wright-President
John F. Morrill-Vice President
FJ Faulkner
The purpose of the meeting was to declare certain employees (6) the right to sign and countersign company checks...
The document is boldly signed by John Morrill at the bottom of the page.
About "Honest John"
*Played from 1876-1890 for the Boston Red Stockings, Boston Beaneaters, and a very short period for the washington 9
*Born and raised in Boston and quickly became a fan favorite
*A versatile player that could play virtually any position with the exception of pitcher
*He replaced George Wright as Team Captain of the Boston Beaneaters in 1879
*He later Replaced (in 1882) Harry Wright as the team manager
*He played and integral Role in the Red Stockings first two pennants (1877-78) as a player, and led them to their third in 1883
*John Retired from the game in 1890, opened his own sporting goods store but was quickly recruited by former teammate George Wright to go work for Wright & Ditson where he remained for 39 years
*Morril was born in boston in 1855 & died in Boston in 1932.
All in all a pretty tough signature of a true deadballer...
