T206 Ty Cobb with Ty Cobb back found in Ty Cobb Tobacco tin

Lew Lipset - Old Judge Auction (April 16, 2009)

Vintage sportscards pioneer, Lew Lipset, has a T206 Ty Cobb back in his April 2009 Old Judge Auction. He indicates in his auction that he believes T206 Ty Cobb with Ty Cobb back were brought to the public in Ty Cobb Tobacco tin and were the only way they were distributed.

The following was the auction description:

T206 Ty Cobb with Ty Cobb back graded Authentic by SGC. One of the most prestigious and rarest cards in the hobby with about a dozen known. Considerably rarer than the legendary T206 Honus Wagner card. This card was originally found in a Ty Cobb Tobacco tin and it is my belief that is the way they were brought to the public, and were the only way they were distributed. The card has tiny spots of paper loss on the front including in the legend area at the bottom. The back has some light tobacco stains and a spot of paper loss beneath the word "World".

Final bid (with 10% premium): $51,879

The above Ty Cobb Tobacco Tin image is for reference only.

Then i found this info, saying otherwise:
Ty Cobb backs are the rarest in existence. There are only a dozen known, and are only seen with Ty Cobb Portrait with Red Background. Due to the low number in existence, some collectors are curious whether the card was actually issued. Some collectors don't even consider such back as part of the T206 set since all Ty Cobb backs (except one) has glossy coating on the front which are similar to T213-2 Coupon Tobacco series
