Default 1925-31 w590

Does anyone know why all 1925-31 W590's look like they were "hand cut" by a 5 year old? Did they distribute these to kindergarteners and ask them to practice their cutting skills?

Or was it that the original strips were so close together that it's hard to get a wide border on them? Regardless, they must be the worst-cut of all the 1920's strip cards.

I finally came across a decent Lindstrom example for my HOF rookie collection, but all others I've seen (or own) look horrid!
