That's a great video. It's amazing that kids aren't taught that rule when they first learn the game. Or maybe my viewpoint is skewed by my childhood. I was raised in Chicago in the 60's, where the "Merkle" play was still being discussed from time to time.
I wonder how often Merkle is mentioned to young players. From this I guess the answer is not often enough.
