I also find it hard to believe that 100+ year old cards would stand the test of time so well. Makes you wonder how many fakes are owned by collectors of exclusively high-end material. Especially given the fact that there are people out there that can do a pretty decent job at producing fake but very realistic PSA holders! Oh well, perhaps authenticity is not the key factor for the wise collector/investor.
