You simply need to consider how your actions affect others. Your compulsions on ebay or whatever are selfish and rude.

I don't think you intend for it to be that way, sincerely. I also think that if you consider your actions in that light, you may pause before hitting that bid button if you aren't confident about your finances.

I think that most people see ebay sellers as faceless...thats a nice thing about this board, the community is fairly small, you can interact with the sellers here in a way that you might not usually.

I think that you think of it as a simple monetary transaction and that there are no consequences for you, so there are no consequences for the seller, but that's simply not true. When you renege, the "underbidder" may have spent his money elsewhere already, costing the seller a sale and fees for relisting. Even if the underbidder does buy it, you've cost the seller a bunch of time reaching out to that person to re-sell their item and relisting it.
