Default auction format

It seems to me that there are collectors out there bidding on baseball cards as if they are priceless art. The Nest Egg auction is/was run just like a Sotheby's or Christie's auction where buyers have nano-seconds to decide whether or not to bid again. Saco River has shown that this may be a good way to sell rare cards.

On the other hand, we have recently seen the aut Drum and Murphy Red Hindu sell for what seem like anomaly prices in conventional sports memorabilia formats. Maybe it's just 2 or 3 collectors with lots to spend.
