I saw the 2008 REA auction price you quoted, and I don't know how to explain that one. As someone who is actively seeking a nice example of this card - I was turned off by the centering. With that said, it's a great Thorpe card - no matter how you look at it.

If I were looking for one I too would wait for one that is centered a bit better. Still a really great card last night though. As for pricing, there have been several whales that left the hobby in the last 5-10 yrs. Some of those guys would buy a card regardless of price. That is probably what happened with the 44k price. I can show countless examples of other cards that went for a gazillion dollars only to come back down to normal type pricing (if there is such a thing).
