Default Memories of Stan Musial.........

I was never able to see Stan Musial play in person. While I was growing up in Southern California my dad regularly listened to the Dodgers on the radio. In 1963 Stan Musial was being honored in every National League ballpark during his final season. I was in bed, it must have been a school night. I can still hear Vin Scully's voice paying homage to "the great Stan Musial", with the accompanying loud, long applause. My dad was listening to the game in the den, and assumed I was asleep. All these years later I can still hear Vin Scully's voice praising Stan Musial...........and the long applause.

Something from the local newspaper today:

"President John F. Kennedy, at the 1962 All-Star Game, to a 41-year-old Stan Musial": "A couple years ago they told me I was too young to be president and you were too old to be playing baseball. But.....we fooled them.""

R.I.P. Stan Musial
