Earliest Cuban baseball book?
Thanks to a gift of a new scanner I can again post on the board. Here's a pick up a got a couple of months ago and I think that it may be the earliest book printed in Cuba about baseball. Printed in 1886 it is basically a sports instructional that has a 20+ plus section on baseball that appear to be a translation of William Woods 1880 book on sports. It also has a great woodcut of a game in progress (which is also a copy of an earlier American cut) I cannot find any reference to any earlier books printed in Cuba which reference baseball (though I will be surprised if somehow Max proves me wrong) The book also has a great section that tell of the evils of tobacco use and how athletes should not use it-- a big difference then latter Cuban items which seem to all be funded by the tobacco industry
PS - sorry about the size of the scan still trying to figure out new printer
