The whole issue of debate is a minor issue in my opinion. If the worst he did was give a plug to an item he or his friend consigned, it's not that big of a deal.
Though I agree that if (I said if-- no accusation coming from me) it belongs to to the original poster, he should have just said so. Made up stories don't sit well when it's deduced they're made up.
