T202
Posted By: Brian Collie
Long time lurker, 2nd time posting...

I'm in the early stages of an effort to put together a T202 set graded PSA 5 or better. I've always found this to be one of the most attractive sets and love the B/W photos and text on the back. I'm a little surprised that there isn't more discussion about this set on the board. Any particular reasons why?

Anyway, I'm interested in learning more about this set (history, scarcity, etc.) but have had little luck doing a quick search online. Any places I should be looking?

Also, I'm interested in buying a few lots to jump start my effort. Anything out there?

Thanks,

Brian

T202
Posted By: Geno
Brian --

I completed a basic T205 set a few years back, but didn't feel like I wanted to fork out big bucks for the variations. Instead I decided to pursue the T202s since they are the same cards with more info on the back and, of course, the great center pictures! It's cool to see the way the catchers stood back then, or the umpires - there truly are some great shots. Anyway, the best part is that it is affordable and doesn't have the variation frenzy. I am slowly trying to accumulate back variations, but it's a long road for those. There are three backs - Factory 649 in black ink, Factory 30 in red, and Factory 30 in black. I used to think it was possible to get a complete set of all three, but I don't think so anymore. The Black 30s only seem to exist in about 25% or so of the cards from what Lee Behrens has tracked and in my experience.

Bottom line - an awesome set and fun to collect! I even buy odd panels to "produce" my own cards in nine pocket sheets - it's even cheaper to do it that way!!

Take Care, Geno

T202
Posted By: Lee Behrens
As Geno atated, I also believe this is the most beautiful set out there. You get multple players with a nice photo and great write ups on the back. I also have been able to find very little info on the set my knowledge is more aggresively collecting the set for 7 years now. I was a contirbutor to an article in Old Cardboard #7. Lots of nice basic information about the set. You will find as you collect that the tough cards are not the ones listed in the price guides. You will find out as you buy which ones are tougher. Also as I state in the article I believe the toough Matty/Devlins are acually reversed from the price guides.

I do have afew T202's that I would be willing to sell but none are in Ex condition. Never been a big collector of high grade cards. I have had some but have either trraded or sold them. The T202's have all went to a fellow board member with a High grade PSA and SGC set.

If you have any other questions feel free to email.

Lee
