Posted By: scott brockelman
While these are "Pirate" backs, they are different from the ones that come on the baseball cards, these show an open pack with cigarettes exposed at the top. The baseball version are unopened. I beleive that someone posted a scan of many backs and a few of the closed were mixed in with the others, perhaps it was even the seller of this group. A search may find the prior pics, still neat items, but not exactly as the baseball version.

Scott

Posted By: Richard
Travis and Andrew - I got your messages. I'll forward payment info in a few minutes.

Scott - I have never seen a baseball version before. The only images I have ever seen are the ones on the Old Cardboard website which shows an open pack and the one in Hagar's book which I believe also shows an open pack.

I was the one who posted scans of a closed pack version of the chinese warrior cards. I have found the closed pack version extremely rare compared to the open pack version. Could the baseball pirate cards have been available as both open and closed as well? Regardless, I believe that these warrior cards are from the same period.

Posted By: scott brockelman
I am fairly certain that the "opened" pack backs are period as well, and you could be right, perhaps they were issued with both backs, I guess a little auction catalogue homework would give us a better idea, but due to the fact so few have sold it may not.

here is scan of my T215 for those who have not seen the "closed" pack we are speaking of.

scott

Posted By: Travis Anderson
Richard,

Payment sent. As an aside to the discussion above there are some closed pack chinese Pirate cards on eBay right now. The seller also has open pack Pirates, Pinhead and Peacock back Chinese cards which are very similar to the Pirate backs (pretty cool looking as well).

Travis
