T206 Cobb Red - What to do?

Posted By: Dave Snyder

Having only started my T206 collection about a year ago, I've run into a quandry of sorts regarding a T206 Ty Cobb (Red Background - Piedmont 150) that I purchased recently. The card is slabbed as an SGC 30 and I paid about what you'd think for this particular issue. When the card arrived however, I could not for the life of me, figure out how this card only graded a 30. I have several SGC 30 T206's and they aren't even close to the condition of this card. Perefectly centered, no paper loss or staining, no creases, wrinkles or blemishes, no marks, not miscut - no qualifiers of any kind. In my opinion - it should be at least a 40 if not a 50

I'll post a scan this evening when I get home from work, but the fundamental question is, do I break it out and resubmit the card?

Can anyone share their personal experiences with resubmitting a card - especially one with a high value?

Thanks,

Dave

T206 Cobb Red - What to do?

Probably not - you have nothing to lose.

However, I bought a Miller Batting E102 that was in a 50 holder. The card looked like an 80. I cracked it out and re-submitted it. here's what it got:

I still can't figure it out...the only thing is a possible indentattion on the back which I am only guessing MIGHT be there. I can't tell.

T206 Cobb Red - What to do?

Posted By: barry arnold
I always have a suspicion that the graders are tougher on the 'star'
cards,i.e the top HOF's.
I periodically stare at a Cobb red portrait that got only a good and tell
my wife that i'm going to do a crossover.
She typically says 'it is a great looking card---no creases, etc.'
I usually smile, knowing that it's a beauty.
Then pick up my book on Nag Hammadi and get back to reading.

ain't life grand.

best,

barry

p.s. for some reason, i thought i was on the forum--forgive my longwindedness.
