Posted By: Mike Pritchard
I have this old card that has 6 players on it. One of the players is Babe Ruth and the other is Tris Speaker. I have not been able to identify the other 4 players on the card. I found the card under the wood floor of a poolhall that was built in Guymon, Ok. around 1910. I tore the building down appx 25 years ago to make room for a bank expansion on main street in Guymon. I have sent a scan to a couple of different collectors whom have verified Babe and Tris on the card. It is not a photagraph but maybe a color drawing of some sort. I am looking for help to identify all the players and possible a price that the card may be worth. Please email mpritc@ptsi.net if you think you could help me. I will email you a scan of my card and we can go from there. Thank you Mike Pritchard

Posted By: Mike Pritchard
There is no printing on the back of the card. I have the card between 2 pieces of plexiglass to protect it from future damage. The bottom left hand player is Babe Ruth verified from a picture on a card put out by The Purity Ice Cream Co. There were 21 cards in their set and when you collected all 21 you got a free brick of ice cream. The middle player on the right is Tris Speaker. At this point in time I haven't been able to find all 21 of those cards to maybe see if any of the other players may be in their set of cards. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Posted By: Mike Pritchard
I don't know if my card is connected to the Purity Ice Cream cards or not. Just that the pic of Babe on my card is the same pose on the ice cream card. They also have one out of Speaker but not the same pose on my card or maybe not the same Speaker. I have a pic of that card also. My card measures 2-1/2w inches by 4-1/2h inches and each players pic measures 1-5/8h x 1-1/4w. I think the Purity Ice Cream Co. was located in Canada. Am researching that also. Everyone, i have to say thank you. I never expected this kind of interest in my card. Mike Pritchard mpritc@ptsi.net

I think Mr. Pritchard was just saying that he looked for a reference to confirm the identification of Ruth, and happened to find a picture of the Honey Boy card.

Posted By: Hal Kaplan
Thanks Mr. Pritchard!! Great card, I thought there might be some old tape or glue on the back that perhaps you didn't notice, because the other cards I've seen like this (e.g. Randall's post above) picture 4 players or boxers each. Best of luck and thanks for sharing!

I picked it up a while ago at a local small card show. The dealer had a lot of strip cards and this was in that group. I knew when I purchased it that it had been cut down from something, I just didn't know what. I thought it may have been cut from a card similar to the one the original poster has, but mine has a white border. Not sure what it is or where it came from.

Posted By: Brad Green

Mike Pugeda:

My thoughts are as follows:

- Your card appears to have the same image as Mike Pritchard's card
- Your card and Mike Pritchard's cards (each taken individually) are about the same size
- Your card has a black box around the card, much like the black lines that are on Mike Pritchard's card
- On the top of your card, just above the horizontal black line, there are two black marks on your card. One of the marks is on the left side and the other is on the right side. What if these marks are from the "Cleveland" on the shirt of the player on the mid-right of Mike Pritchard's card? Specifically, the marks would be from the "C" and "D" in Cleveland.
- We will never know if Mike Pritchard's card had a black box around the outside edge of the card. It may well have originally had one, but was trimmed off.
- The only thing that I can't explain is that the vertical black line on the right side of your card does not appear to go to the top of the card. I would think it would if it had been originally produced on a sheet with the other cards.

The player on the very bottom right may be Jim Thorpe. He played with the Boston Braves in 1919. Tell me if the picture of Thorpe resembles the face on the Baseball Card?

Brian Van Horn 08-24-2009 06:55 AM

Can we have Rhett post his card from this set? Three of the first four are Schalk, Wheat and Speaker. On the left of the second row is possibly Steve O'Neill, but the pose I believe is different from Rhett's card. The bottom right of the last row is definitely not Thorpe. It almost looks as if it may be Lee Meadows without the glasses.

Hal Kaplan 08-24-2009 09:16 PM

I think the player in the lower right is George "Specs" Toporcer. Thanks for bumping this thread. This is the 6-in-1 thread I referred to in Rhett's Universal Toy & Novelty 4-in-1 thread but could not find. This definitely looks like it's connected to those 4-in-1's. Rhett's 4-in-1 card pictures the top two rows on the above card.
