Posted By: Jim VB
Fred C,

WWF = World Wildlife Fund

Wrestling = WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment)

Several years ago, the State of New Jersey forced the then WWF to admit that they were NOT a sport but were, instead, scripted entertainment. Had they not admitted it, they would have been forced to be subject to a State Wrestling Commission much as boxing is. McMahon did not want this, so he made his admission and changed their name. Therefore... not a sport!

Posted By: Jim VB
You are correct Steve. The World Wildlife Fund (or whatever they are now called) was integral in forcing the name change.
