My understanding is these were given away at Maxwell Hardware Stores in 1947, near Oakland/Berkeley area. I know Mark would probably know but just figured I would try here first. They were sold at Maxwell Hardware in Oakland, and at least one other location in the East Bay during 1947 &amp; 1948. Lloyd Hittle hasn't really changed that much in 60 years. Just add a beard to that smiling mug <img src="/images/happy.gif" height="14" width="14" alt="happy.gif">

I haven't seen too many cards from this set so I guess they are fairly scarce.<br><br>Dan- I wasn't sure which of the 3 on ebay I wanted so I grabbed them all. I ended up picking the Hittle as I too like the pose (especially the grass) on this card. It was half the price of the Sabol though...I think Sabol might have been a bigger name or, it was the last one of the 3 on ebay and another type collector went deeper to try to win it. <br><br>best regards and thanks for chiming in, ya'll.
