Posted By: PatC

This is a continuation of Ted's T206 Joe Doyle N.Y. survey. Besides the three Doyle variations that Ted's pointed out before. Does anyone has the 4th variation that missing partial Y and the last period? There are two have been reported so far (one with Old Mill and one with Piedmont back)

1st, Joe Doyle N.Y. (Regular)

2nd, Joe Doyle N.Y. Nat'l (Part of the Big 4 -- only 7 known to exist)

3rd, Joe Doyle N.Y. . (This is the "with dot" variation Ted pointed out earlier and ~12% of regular Joe Doyle N.Y. has this extra dot)

4th, Joe Doyle N.Y (This is the newer variation that found recently and only 2 reported so far)

Collectors, pls check your T206 Joe Doyle again if your Doyle is missing partial Y and the last period. SURVEY: T206 Joe Doyle N.Y (missing partial Y & period) - - - 4th variation
Posted By: PatC

I couldn't believe there are only two known specimens of this variation? If that's the case, this Doyle 4th variation is rarer than the Doyle N.Y. Nat'l.

If your Doyle is missing the last period and partial Y, pls reply.

SURVEY: T206 Joe Doyle N.Y (missing partial Y & period) - - - 4th variation
Posted By: NYHighlanderFan
I laughed when people started claiming that Sharpe had a variation spelled "Shappe"...because the bottom right part of his "R" was missing and not spelled with a "P" doesn't make this card another Magee/Magie. Now this Doyle topic has pushed it over the edge.

I bet an entire set can be put together with t206 cards scattered throughout the world with glimpses of missing ink somewhere in their names. When I first started collecting this set, the no B Sweeney was considered the 524th card...then it was considered just a printing error and the set was dropped back to 523...what's next, saying the set now has 527 cards?
SURVEY: T206 Joe Doyle N.Y (missing partial Y & period) - - - 4th variation
Posted By: PatC

This is no reason adding this 4th Doyle variation to make t206 set becomes 52x cards. But this variation make me think the printer might have removed too much of the lettering when he/she scratched off the "Nat'l" portion.
