Posted By: george gogolI just picked up a BVG 1.5 "Ed Reulbach, glove showing" for $27.00. Not a whole lot more than a common card in the same low grade. In the big book, it books for almost 4x what other commons book for, putting its NM value around $1000.00. This seems very inflated and the card seems fairly common. Posted By: JamieSure the card is an uncommon common (if that makes sense)... worth slightly more because of its difficulty to aquire compared to the rest of the commons.. but there are much rarer variations of common players like elberfeld washington port which make the card really jump up.... seems to me that you got a good deal.. the card should be around $40... Posted By: Frank WakefieldReulbach with glove is in the 150 series only. Possible backs are Piedmont, Sovereign, Hindu, Sweet Caporal. I think there are 2 factory possibilities with Sweet Caporal, 25 and 30. But I might be mixed up on that. Point is that this card is among the more difficult to obtain of the 150 series cards. And among all of the cards. I think you got a good deal. Not necessarily a great deal, but a good one. I sometimes bid on the Reulbach glove cards when I see one auctioned, just to get a bid in so I can watch the price and maybe keep one from going dirt cheap. I bid on that one. It closed Jan 11th, sold for $27.21 with $4.80 for shipping from a good, reliable seller. I don't think you stole it, I'm ever so slightly surprised it didn't go for a tiny bit more. Ed was one interesting player. If you can, get a copy of Mr. Bill James' first Historical Baseball Abstract, the original one, not the updated version. Mr. James has a great 2 page section about Ed. I've thought of him as a possible HOF candidate. Much lesser players have gone in lately.

Posted By: PCNot too long ago I purchased a BVG 1.5 T206 Reulbach/glove showing for a little less than you did ... $25 with shipping. You got a good price, but then prices have been coming down and some pre-war collectors do not like BVG. The card would have gone for slightly more in an SGC or PSA holder. As far as it being a rarity, it isn't that rare, and I do not believe it warrants the hefty price some sellers try to get for it. If a "regular" T206 common in 1-1.5 range goes for $15-$20, then an extra $5-$10 for the Reulbach/glove is certainly fair.

Posted By: PC-T206Many feel Reulbach is HOF worthy. His winning percentage and ERA definitely meet (probably exceed) HOF standards. However, I think it is his number of wins -- which is somewhat lower than most of his HOF contemporaries (like Mathewson, McGinnity, Willis) -- has kept him out. So, he's not really a "common" player, even though he's not a HOFer. That, combined with the relative rarity of the T206/glove version = a somewhat higher price. Personally, I think the Reulbach/no glove-throwing T206 is a much nicer card, and one of the nicer images in the set. And it sells pretty much at a "common" price. And Reulbach went to Notre Dame, which is a bonus (for some collectors).

Posted By: Eric S.George, I am working on the T206 Cubs with all back variations. The Reulbach with glove is supposedly the 69th most difficult card to source out of the set and I agree that it is a little more difficult to find and don't consider him a common. I would have been willing to pay $35 for that card. Probably would have busted it out of the holder but that's just me. I think you got a decent deal. e
