Posted By: leon
Sometimes I feel this board is a 21st Century Trader Speaks. Many days the front page only has 10-20 different threads but the BST pages can have mulitples of that (in total)......Not that there's anything wrong with that. Thanks for posting Lionel's comments....

Posted By: Stephen Mitchell
The headline caught my attention and I'm glad it did, for I was editor-publisher of The Sports Collectors Journal referenced by Lionel Carter in 1969. SCJ had just "failed" - due to my voluntary entry into military service (just weeks ahead of a forth-coming draft notice, I feel certain).

Lionel's evaluation was exactly as mine (with regard to The Trader Speaks). Editor-publisher Dan Dischley had sent me a copy of his Trader Speaks in late 1968, early '69 (the memory is dim) with an offer to trade subscriptions. I declined for the very reason the late Mr. Carter gave. One thing that did impress me, however, was the professionalism of Dan's letter and his periodical. But it contained a lot of non-hobby material and I felt it would not succeed. A few months later, SCJ was gone and TTS was on its way to much success.
