Memory Lane Pick-Ups

Posted By: Phil Garry
How did everyone do in the Memory Lane Auction last night? I wish the lots ended individually instead of all at once as this format will always work as a tremendous disadvantage to those of us on the east coast. I went to bed around midnight EST and was the high bidder on the W600 Flick only to wake up this morning to find out I was outbid by one increment, with no bids being placed on the card between 8:00pm when the extended bidding began until midnight when I went to bed. I thought my bid was safe but I guess not..........

Posted By: scott brockelman
Happened to me 2 ML auctions ago, got outbid after 6 hours of inactivity, on a lot I really wanted and thought I was safe. Fixed the problem after that, I started using the max bids and have not lost a lot yet to the late night west coasters.

Dan,

last night I had 6 maxes placed and not one was ran up or even bid on. Twas a good night.

Scott

Memory Lane Pick-Ups

Posted By: kg
first of all, i want to apologize in advance if i offend any of u die-hard pre-war guys for posting this on the vintage (pre-war) forum--i was going to start a new thread regarding this on the memorabilia forum (and i still might because i know that certain people only frequent certain forums and not others), but when i saw this thread, i figured i'd take a chance and post this here because alot of the players that signed these two replica batting helmets played during the pre-war era. (and these helmets are actually exact replicas of the first major league helmets that were first worn around 1941, right around world war II). what i'm wondering is if any of u guys have seen these replica helmets before (in an unsigned state); at first i thought they were an item that cooperstown collection currently produces, but judging by most of the autographs on them that i can discern, many of the players are deceased and have been so for many years (for example, vic lombardi--who signed the dodgers helmet--passed away in december 1997, which means these helmets are at least 11 years old). i dont know if they still produce these helmets or when they originally did, so any help would be much appreciated. and sorry again if i have offended anyone by posting this here.

(and yes, i did win the lot, just in case anyone is wondering--and phil, i too am on the east coast but am a late-nighter (even more so on weekends)--i placed my bid for this lot and another lot right before 8pm est so i would be eligible to continue bidding on these lots during the extended bidding; my bid stood on this lot and i was outbid on the other lot around 12:20am but immediately placed another bid that held up and i won that lot too. i took a nap last night at 2:30, set my alarm for an hour later at 3:36 am and planned to wait it out til 4 to see if either the auction was over or if i was still the high bidder on both of my lots, and was pleased to find when i returned to my computer at 3:36 that i was still the high bidder on my lots and the auction had ended like a minute earlier, so i had timed my wake-up call perfectly!! (go figure).

phil or anyone else: let me know if u want me to place a late-night bid for u in the waning hours of their next auction--i'd be happy to do so provided it ends on a saturday night.

here is the link to the sort-of "pre-war" lot:

http://www.memorylaneinc.com/site/bid/bidplace.asp?itemid=12859&getauctionid=70>< br>
