The one that got away........
Posted By: MikePugeda
We're always discussing cards that we've picked up, so I thought I would take it another direction.

What card(s) have you recently lost out on that you really had your hopes of acquiring?

I'll start with this on which I was the underbidder. (Dag nabbit Leon....wait til next time. Just kidding, congrats again). Post a picture if possible.

Mike

The one that got away........
Posted By: Steve Murray
I'm having a tough time coming up with just one. I guess the two most notable, the two that I whined about the most, were the Fusco Detroit Sporting Life PC fiasco and the most recent disappoinment with the Z11 Bernard.

But, as oft said, they're just little pieces of cardboard.

Posted By: Daryle
I found a T210-8 Joe Jackson about 8-10 years ago in probably around GD condition. Could have had it for under 10K (probably around $7500).....didn't buy it. Kick myself in the @sssss everytime I get in and out of the shower

Posted By: dstudeba
Leon owns an e221 San Francisco that I was the underbidder on. I couldn't go higher and still wouldn't, but I really wanted that card.

Posted By: bigfish
Leon has zapped me on a Kottton Cobb, E106 Wagner, Red Cross, Ju Ju Drum..among others. I know I have outbid him once. It is all good.

The one that got away........
Posted By: leon
Man, I am not catching a break on this thread..... I guess I can't say I don't look at ebay too much....For the record I only win about 20% of my snipes. All of the cards mentioned here were for my collection so the snipes were the "need" snipes and not the "flip" snipes. No Jeff, I don't NEED any of these....but I really, really wanted them ....

The one that got away........
Posted By: Brian T.
Well, I guess I'll join the "piling on party." I was the underbidder to Leon on a E107 Nixey Callahan in the last Goodwin auction. That one wasn't really "the big one that got away", but I figured I would join the underbidder to Leon club. All in all, I can't beat him up too badly though since we just worked a deal on a Willis E107. Thanks again, Leon.

Posted By: robert a
At least now we don't have to see the dreaded "typecardcollector" after we lose out on our auctions. We'll just see t..r

Leon: You may now snipe in peace!

The one that got away........
Posted By: Dan Bretta
I once contemplated sending a leg breaker down to Texas when Leon got an auction ended early for a big lot of Kashins that were listed in the wrong category.

Posted By: Glen V
Do these posts have to relate to Leon now? Leon only outbid me on one card this month. However, his ID was listed as y***l, not t***r.

Posted By: Jason
I missed out on a T205 Ty Cobb with an American Beauty back. I thought I had it as I went above its value in bidding but some other dude wanted it more. sigh...

The one that got away........
Posted By: David M
I've been outbid plenty of times, but never by Leon (I don't think!). My biggest "wish I could do it again" goes back to about 1980 or so. I had the chance to buy not one, but two 1952 Topps Mantles. But the card had gone up to over $3K and then fallen to around $1K. The guy was asking $900 each and they were beautiful. I just thought everyone would be scared of the Mantle and it would never get to those ridiculous levels again. So I opted to spend my money on a Mint 1953 Campy he had instead. Nice card, but....

The one that got away........
Posted By: Jason Carota
I thought for sure my bid was high enough, but I lost out on an M116 Ed Karger (SGC 60, I believe.) I don't have a pic, as the auction ended a while back.

The one that got away........
Posted By: Michael Steele
Barry had a really nice Purple E-94 Cicotte in his last auction. What a great card. Hung in there for a bit but was the 2nd or 3rd underbidder. No regrets but boy that was a nice card.

Hey Jason, small world indeed as I think I won that M-116 Karger you refer to (SGC 80).
