Posted By: D. Bergin
LOL!!! That is one Herculean listing effort, even if much of it is copy/pasted. Probably took him all day to put that together.

Too bad it won't make much of a difference then if he had just stated what the card was, player, condition and size.

Posted By: Marty Ogelvie
Done mostly for keyword stuffing.. the more words (text) you include in the description, the more often your listing will show up in keyword searches. Not sure if it will increase the hammer price but it will get more looks because of the sheer amount of words (text).

Posted By: Marc S.
do you think a lot of people search within the descriptions? I know it is a choice -- but since it frequently keeps ridiculous listings in, I almost never do it. 95+% of the searches I do on Ebay are in the titles only. Yes -- I know that I may miss some esoteric, mislisted items as a result, but I don't like spending hours sorting through all the garbage...

Posted By: Marty Ogelvie

Marc,

I Always search within the description because I don't want to miss something that may not be titled.. its probably 50/50 for searches.

Even if it is only 50/50 on the searches, he will get more views but not necessarily more bids, which may be what he is after. Some ebay Advertisers/Affiliates will include the MOST VIEWED auctions from certain catagories on their sites which will get his auction more exposure.

If you take a quick look at the description of this card, you notice the SET checklist is inlcuded which will get a lot of searches as will the mention of Jack Johnson (boxer). In reality its keyword spamming and could get the boot if someone reported it to eBay but personally, I'm not that anal. It bugs me but not to the point that I would want the guy to loose his insertion fee (bad choice of words.. how 'bout Listing FEE).

marty

All along I thought they were incentives for not having sex, or maybe wearing clean underwear.
