Ever have your desire or resolve tested?
Posted By: Jason L
in this wonderful hobby, have you ever had your desire for an item tested?
and been surprised at how you handled it or what your response was?

Here's an example of what I'm talking about:
A couple months back, a very scarce example of one of my cousin's cards came up for auction on Ebay. I mean, really scarce. This is one of those cards that I thought I would easily pay several hundred dollars for if I had to - just to ensure I won it.
But a funny thing happened on the way to the auction. I couldn't be bothered for more than $260. And I HAPPILY let it go!!! I mean, I was shocked at myself. turns out I guess I didn't want it that badly. I still don't know why.

Anyone else have something similar happen to them? or the opposite? perhaps out of nowhere, you just HAD to have something you hadn't ever been looking for?

Ever have your desire or resolve tested?
Posted By: Dave
I question why I decided to go after the Monster after I swore it off 3 years ago (and sold off the 100 I already had)

Now I lament the fact that I sold the other t206 cards every time I purchase one I had previously...and I kinda miss some of the rarer cards I dumped to get back into t206.

So to sum up. I'm psychotic. Every day my resolve is tested. Especially in this economic time and with a newborn.

But the good thing is that they are plentiful... and the set something I can enjoy going for in good and bad times economically, and can go after at my own pace... with collecting rare cards it's a lot trickier because when you see one you have to pony up the cash to get it right there and the chances are you won't see one again for a long time.

...and for those who don't enjoy cards it's something (The Monster) they tend to appreciate a little more than rarity. The notion of getting 500+ cards that form a set from 1909-11 is something that can blow non-collector's minds.

At least that's what I think today.
Ever have your desire or resolve tested?
Posted By: Doug
I have a few times, but when it comes to draining the bank account for a baseball card I don't have much choice other than to let it go, but to quote a line from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade "You lost today kid, but that doesn't mean you've got to like it."
