R305 Tattoo Orbits
Posted By: Rob D.
I'm not a set collector per se, but after the fun I had compiling a Butter Cream set, I've been contemplating diving into another from the same era. This week I picked up a couple of nice R305 Tattoo Orbit cards of Cleveland players, and it probably would not take too much of a push for me to try to put together a mid-grade set.

I know that more than a few board members have completed this set, and there are a couple who bailed on it. Before I dive in, I'd be interested in hearing whether there are any cards that have consistently been tough for board members to find or if there are other intricacies to the set that could be shared.

Thanks, Rob

Posted By: James Feagin
Dangit Rob! It was you that got me on those cards! I have been studying this set for a while now and am currently up to 49/60 cards. My research has concluded that 1.) several of the shortprints, are in fact shortprints; 2.) several of the shortprints are not shortprints and 3.) several of the "common" cards are WAY tougher than the announced shortprints. These include Alexander, Bartell (have seen only one on ebay in the last year), Grube and a couple of others. E-mail me if you have other questions.I find it interesting that a year after the 1932 World Series, there are NO Yankees in the set, but many many Cubs and Cardinals.

James

Posted By: Bruce Dorskind
Several years ago we completed a set which we later traded

The cards that we found most difficult Ernie Lombardi, Phil Collins
and James Levy.

We only tracked this set in PSA. There are seven cards whose total
PSA population is either 10 or 11. A number of the "common" cards
have PSA populations in the mid 20's.

The seven low population cards are

William Hamm 10
Phil Collins 10
Marty McManus 11
James Levy 11
E Lombardi 10
Geroge Earnshaw 11
Pete Malone 11

Only four of the above cards have sold at public auction during 2008. Three of the sales
were for PSA 5 cards- and they sold for about $125 each. The one PSA 7 sale was Lombardi
which sold for more $750. The seller was Memory Lane.

Lots of good luck-. You might want to speak with Kevin Savage He auctioned off
an entire set in on a card by card basis in late 2006 and early 2007

Bruce Dorskind
America's Toughest Want List

Posted By: Bob
I put the set together card by card and can attest to the fact that Alexander is the toughest (at least for me), followed closely by Bartell and Levey. All the "experts" talk about the toughies being Blaeholder and Andrews. Poppycock, they pop up frequently event though they are short prints.
I agree on Lombardi being tough also.
