It is unlikely that a famous person would be in this photo (such as Kelly), but this photo was taken was before Honus would have been playing major organized baseball. This photo was taken in Patterson NJ where Honus grew up and I must say that the person on the bottom row second to the left has a strong resemblance.<br /><br />-Ryan

But i do know we have had alot of threads about photos of ball players that we think resemble a famous player and then we agree it's not them. So maybe this is finally the one. Also where did you buy the photo from, local auction, ebay, flea market?

I knew of the links of Patterson NJ and great ball players and I bought it. I found another photo (not mine) taken about 3-7 years later of an organized patterson team. The one which still exists is in north central PA (an hour or so north of Williamsport). The Mansfield of Honus fame was later renamed Carnegie, I believe. And, without double-checking, I think that Wagner spent his entire life living there.

Posted By: <b>RayPiskadlo</b><p>Are we even sure that picture is fron Paterson? There is no indication on the photo. The original owner keeps using two "t"s, when there is only one. Plus, even in the early 1900s, Paterson was a large mill city... silk mills to be exact. I don't know where in Paterson there would be a park that beautiful, maybe Garrett Mountain?, and I grew up 10 minutes away in Lyndhurst.

Posted By: <b>CoreyRS.hanus</b><p>My experience with photo ID is that if there are enough faces to choose from (and in the image at hand there are over 40 individuals) you can almost always find at least one face that bears enough of a resemblence to the person you are comparing it to to give you hope you found your match. Complicating matters further is that we are human. So try as we might, we cannot extinguish all subconscious biases in making our assessments. When I am making purchasing decisions about whether a particular person is in an image, I always require at least one other corroborating factor be present. For example, did the image come from the family of the person you hope is in the image? Is there a positive ID of another player who was known to have been on the same team? Is the photo process (e.g., albumen) consistent with the period the image is to date from? Etc., etc. Without this corroborating evidence, I would characterize as de minimus the probability that the image depicts the person you are looking for.<br><br>
