"Hello, Old Friend."
Posted By: Frank Wakefield
I love it!!! What a great tale to append to a card. If you don't sell it again, be sure to print a copy of that and keep it with that 'dear old friend'.

I've not done that with a card. I have done it with a matted photo and signed 3x5 card of Fred Snodgrass. I bought it at a show in Cincinnati upon a friend's recommendation, later sold it to the fried for $5 more, and later still I bought it back for an additional $5 more.

And years ago a bunch of us used a $5 bill to pay for about a dozen things, back and forth between us, one night. That 5 spot paid for some beer, kicked in on pizza, helped out on gas, paid for a baseball ticket, and lots more. It was an economics lesson, but not an economy lesson.

Posted By: Steve Dawson
Back in 1979, my mother bought me a 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth #53. It was in low-grade, with several creases, rounded corners and dirty edges. The card was among many cards I sold in 1991 right after I returned to the states after 2 years stationed in Germany and needed money to buy a car and furnish an apartment.

In 2003, my mother died, and I inherited some money from her estate. Then one day while surfing ebay, I found the same exact 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth #53 (in a PSA 1 holder) that my mother had bought me in 1979

Anyway, I was the high bidder (of course), and still have it. It cost me 10 times what she paid for it 24 years earlier. I can guarantee you, that card is going to my grave with me!

Steve

Posted By: T206Collector
"I know it was very hard to let go of your beloved T206s."

You know, it was actually much easier than I thought it would be. But once in a while I miss one of the random ones -- like a Schreck. Like, I'm a little disappointed I don't have any Hal Chase cards anymore. But those are pretty easy to reacquire.

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Visit http://www.t206collector.com for Net54 T206 archive, signed deadball card galleries, articles and more!

"Hello, Old Friend."
Posted By: Jeff O
I remember being six years old and living in Philadelphia. Greg Luzinski was my favorite player, and one night my dad took me to the local 7-11 and bought me some cards. I was VERY excited to get a Greg Luzinski that night - so excited I wrote a number "1" on the back of the card.

Fast forward to the late 1980s. We were living in Seattle, and my dad had a baseball card shop. I didn't collect much at the time, but one day I was bored and went through his box of 1977 commons for sale for a trip down memory lane. I smiled when I came across the Luzinski... then flipped it over, and saw a "1" on the back.

That card still resides in a screw-down holder in my office.

Jeff

Posted By: Scot Reader
Paul,

Congratulations on reuniting with your old friend Ozzie. I have Raymond with a wet sheet transfer of "BECKER, BOSTON NAT'L" on the bottom of the reverse. Curiously, there is no transfer of the image--just the name/team caption. Do you (or does anyone else) have any theories on this?

Scot

Posted By: T206Collector
...and I actually am not sure it is a wet sheet transfer, since the text, though faint, is rather legible -- as opposed to blurry.

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Visit http://www.t206collector.com for Net54 T206 archive, signed deadball card galleries, articles and more!
