Odd vintage trade card - questions
 

Posted By: <b>Alan Elefson</b><p>Hi-<br /> I recently acquired the "trade card" piece scanned below and I was wondering if any one might be able to answer a few questions for me. The piece is comprised of six baseball players (different positions labelled on the backs) from Dr. D. Jayne and Son that were supposed to be cut and folded into standups. Each player has a small advertisement for one of Dr. D. Jayne's various elixirs on the reverse, and the entire piece appears to be titled "Jayne's Baseball Folder No. 2". Here are my questions.<br />1. Approximately when was this piece produced?<br />2. How many baseball folders were produced? Can anyone show scans of others?<br />3. Posted By: <b>Jim Manos</b><p>I had one that was cut out sold on ebay for $40 dollars(bottom right one on your sheet) I think it is a coffe company Dr Jayne's and sons?? I know nothing else. My guess is made in the 1920's or 30's??

Posted By: <b>leon</b><p>According to my little bit of research Dr.Jaynes started out around 1827, so 85 yrs after that, which is what the item says on the back, would make it circa 1912...hence my 1910's designation. This is informal research. It's kind of a neat little piece....I think value is about $50-$150.....

I also cannot stand the fact that most antique ephemera dealers utilize this labelling method), and I did not even realize the 85th anniversary inference until you posted. Posted By: <b>leon</b><p>There is a potential date of 1831 as the first year of mfg too, which would make this about 1916... I would say 1910's and be close....could it be early 20's, sure.....value is about the same and I will stick with the 1910's <img src="/images/happy.gif" height=14 width=14> ...
