PSA 10 T206 on ebay
Posted By: Rick McQuillan
Hi,
For the past few days I have been watching an ebay auction for a PSA 10 T206
Jim Pastorius. The auction closed at $10,100 without the reserve being met. I wonder what london_venture had for a reserve? I don't know what the market price is for a PSA 10, but, Holy Cow!, $10,100 is a lot of bucks for a common T206.

I'm interested in seeing what other think about this auction.
Rick

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=260276647853&ssPa geName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=016

Posted By: Mike Frohme
Agreed with both Paul and Lance - not a 10 with that centering.

Wonder about the age of that grade - that looks like an old flip and a low cert #, though I'm poorly versed in those details.

Posted By: Dave F

Well I believe it was this exact same card that went for over $20k last year (2007) in one of the auction houses. If that is correct...no reason in REA or Mastro it wouldn't pull $15k now and the buyer of the card on ebay make a couple grand off it.

Posted By: 1880nonsports
that the card may be one purchased for 20,000. (with or without the buyer's PENALTY?) and a current sales expectation/estimate @ 15,000. in a MAJOR auction. When faced with that one can - cut loses and sell - buy another @ anything less than 20,000. and average the price of the two - keep card until market hopefully catches up. I tend to do the first when I can stop myself from doing the second. Sometimes I just get caught in the third situation because I rationalize with myself - so I guess those would be my hedge funds

Posted By: Fred C
I still find it hard to believe that people can be separated from their $$$ because of "the" number. I guess there are lots of people willing to fork out a lot of money because of someone's opinion. The following was copied directly from the PSA web site:

A PSA Gem Mint 10 card is a virtually perfect card. Attributes include four perfectly sharp corners, sharp focus and full original gloss. A PSA Gem Mint 10 card must be free of staining of any kind, but an allowance may be made for a slight printing imperfection, if it doesn't impair the overall appeal of the card. The image must be centered on the card within a tolerance not to exceed approximately 55/45 to 60/40 percent on the front, and 75/25 percent on the reverse.

That card sure looks like it's about 56/44 to me. But that's just my opinion.

Posted By: Steve Clark
Steve, I fully agree with you. There seems to be a fine line between criticizing a grading company's standard and our own standards. I do, however, that this card should not be a 10 simply based on their own requirements.

Must have taken a real leap in faith for them to unblock their auctions and remove the reserve. Somehow I think they'll figure out a way to continue to get good prices on their cards, though.
