Take Me Out to the Ballgame......Cracker Jack box

Posted By: David Atkatz
...it doesn't seem to be a Cracker Jack box. Cracker Jack is not peanut brittle, and the box itself says of the manufacturer "Cracker Jack and Candy Makers."

Seems to be a candy (Peanut Brittle) box from the makers of Cracker Jack.

Posted By: David Atkatz
That may be because there was no prize inside, since it's not a Cracker Jack box.

Posted By: leon
After a little further research it in fact might be only an ancillary piece. It was not advertised as a Cracker Jack box but as a box of Peanut Brittle. I made the leap from there....I don't know when the boxes started saying prizes but they started being put in boxes in 1912. This box was advertised as a Peanut Brittle box and I made the leap, possibly erroneously, to have potentially held the cards. Here is the answer I got from the seller, after the sale....So in fact it might be a pretty, rare, display piece that didn't hold a card...

"I do not know if the baseball cards were packed in these boxes or not, but they certainly were making this product and these boxes during the 1914 and 1915 years of the cards. In any event, you have one of the rarest Cracker Jack items made. I know most of the people who were bidding on this box (through the Cracker Jack Collectors Association), and they are all advanced collectors, and they don't own one!"
Posted By: David Atkatz
It sure is in incredible condition, Leon. I'm sure it never held Cracker Jack, but it might very well be rarer than an actual Cracker Jack box. If guys who specialize in CJ stuff don't have one, it must be quite rare.
