Most would be interested:- Zimmer's game
Posted By: Leslie Westbrook
I noticed this on CNN this morning and thought many of you other "cards only" collectors would also be interested. It's been talked about over on the memorabilia forum recently, and here's the link:

http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2008/05/28/flink.mo.old.board.game.kmbc

edited title to be more specific

Posted By: Frank Wakefield
Thank you Leslie for posting this... pretty neat.

Amos Rusie's image looked pretty good too, but I guess the CNN guy didn't think Rusie was as much of a Hall of Famer as Young and Ewing. And it troubles me a bit that the CNN guy said it was made in 1893... it has that patent date, but could have been made a year or two later.

One great game. The game's survival is quite fortunate.

Posted By: Dan Bretta
I found it interesting that they said the game was sold at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. Other than both having the date 1893 I'm wondering where they came up with that?

Welsh - hugh.welsh@examiner.net
The Examiner
Posted May 20, 2008 @ 01:25 AM
Last update May 20, 2008 @ 01:30 AM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Independence, MO — It was likely purchased by William Waggoner who, as owner of the Waggoner Milling Company, was wealthy enough to purchase the painterly 1893 Zimmer’s Base Ball Game for his first-born son, William Waggoner Jr., who would have been 6 years old when the game premiered.

“We know William Waggoner attended the 1893 Chicago Exposition (also known as The Chicago World’s Fair), where he bought a number of household goods,” said Steve Schreiber, who is on the Bingham-Waggoner board of advisers. “It is reasonable to believe that, as one of the world’s most prominent game makers, McLoughlin Bros. (the producer of Zimmer’s Base Ball Game) would have been well-represented – and proved too much for William to pass up.”
Posted By: Dan Bretta
Okay, then it's speculation. From the report it sounded like they knew it was obtained at the World's Fair. Has anyone ever seen a print ad for the Zimmer game? Perhaps in a catalog like the Wards or Sears catalog?
