1892 Base Ball Scenes ( N 360 )
Posted By: Bill Stone
It is a rainy day here and I was just glancing at the Standard Catalog and saw the N360 series and realized that I have never seen a card from this series. If you have one would you please post it. Have any of these appeared at auction recently. Thanks.

Posted By: barrysloate
I think the few I've seen have had the schedule back...I don't recognize the other two, and that black back is gorgeous.

And no need to apologize about touting your auction- I do it every chance I get. That's what the board is for.

1892 Base Ball Scenes ( N 360 )
Posted By: 1880nonsports
SGC is smart - if they were then they would know the standard and accepted catalog numbers for the series. That being said - I would prefer them as a grading service over any of the others. THAT having been said I think their grading a bit too restrictive.

Posted By: fkw
Didnt know that the "stars & stripes" batter card is not part of the series. Thanks for pointing it out, I have never seen all 9 poses before and assumed it was part of the N360 series.

Posted By: leon
The last edition of the ACC says, under unclassified large cards:

557- National Sports (girls) Little Rhody (Young)..................... .50

Just curious where you got the designation for America from?
take care
leon

1892 Base Ball Scenes ( N 360 )
Posted By: 1880nonsports
N557 - National Sports - 10 cards including "America" which depicts a woman holding the lumber. N360 - includes 9 poses with a variety of different backs INCLUDING Little Rhody which appears on the front of cards with schedule backs. Many times (especially here) my fingers engage long before my brain. I expect I might be mis-understanding whatever we're talking about but too beat to try and figure it out just now..... Help breaking it down for the old man would be fine.

Posted By: leon
This could be interesting and something I haven't really given much thought to until now. I quoted Burdick verbatim from the ACC 1967 edition. The one I have is a 1988 reprint. I assume you are also looking at the ACC, and if so, what edition is it? I remember Tom B saying something about an older version having some different info in it than the copy I have. I typed it the way I see it which is different than what you just wrote.

Posted By: 1880nonsports
let me smiley first I have the same ACC and copies going back to 1943 (can't get EITHER VERSION of dat damn 1939....). It is listed exactly as you wrote. These are "girls" depicting "National" "Sports". There are 10 countries and 10 sports. One of the cards is "AMERICA". It chose our national pastime sport of BASE BALL. The references I have are the following:
The world tobacco index
Forbes/Mitchell "American Tobacco Cards"
Chris Benjamin yellow spiral

All the cards in the N360 series have white/cream backs.
None of the N360 cards have a country designation.

Posted By: 1880nonsports
"N" series cards to the N360 series......Each is part of a different set.

Please excuse the size and grainyness - my scanner didn't like the cards or holders..... SGC didn't like the backs...... I didn't care about the grades.....
