Posted By: Jim VB
I must have missed the press release that announced that Russ was now in charge of board content.

Bernie asked a simple question. In just over an hour, he had a reasonable answer that gave him a working range.

Three and a half days later, you pop it back to the top, just to blast him?

Lots of people ask questions for which the answers are easily attainable. It probably won't stop just because you want it to.

(Edited from "two" reasonable answers to "one", to make Matt happy! )

Posted By: Bernie
Thanks for backing me JimVB. To be honest, I hadn't even seen Russ' post and I couldn't care less if someone doesn't like me asking a simple question like that.

On to the point of this post ... I checked out the site Russ recommeded and it said that a Speaker, Sweet Cap 350 fact. 30 in fair condition is valued at $182 ... seems kinda high, no ?

Feel free to respond Russ, I know you're enjoying this thread

Posted By: Martin Neal
Hi Bernie, that might be a little high (but not much) for a "fair" card, but there is a lot of price leeway in the lower grades. A sgc 30 can be a real beater or it can have an extremely nice front with a spot of paper loss on the back. If it is a card you are thinking of purchasing, this board can be helpful in a general sense, but as Russ has stated, it would be best to compare it to the sales history of other Speakers available on Ebay and other sites.

Posted By: Russ Bright
if it's on the front page it's fair game... sorry if i didn't notice that the board got so slow that 3 day old posts were still on the front page

and I realize that this may be the first time bernie asked this question, but we have TONS of posts like this all the time by a bunch of people that i WON'T mention and it pisses me off -

do the F)%king legwork yourself, this is not a priceguide -

I understand if someone needs the price range of a herpolshimer because they are so rare, but i just can't understand why someone can't take 30 minutes of their own time to educate themselves on the basic pricing of one of the largest and most common sets out there -

I don't want there to be a precedence set that people can just come here and ask pricing questions

if we do, why don't we have a "Price asking forum"? right over by the "All Honus All Day Forum"

it just frustrates me, and this board is like a roller coaster, we have it very nice and concise and then a few months later there are some idiots who come and disrupt it and make the whole board dynamic unstable... then it takes a little while to settle down to where it's nice again... I just don't want this board spiralling down like the other discussion boards I choose to lurk on...

Posted By: Jim VB
Russ,

With all due respect, I think you're off base. This board can mean a lot of different things to different people. That's part of what makes it so good. Some people have been in the hobby for many years. Others are new to it. One isn't better or worse than the other. Just different.

I do understand your frustration with questions that have answers that are seemingly easy to find or look up. But I don't ever think of those people as "idiots". I think of them as people, newer to the hobby, who may not know about all of the resources available in this day and age. I also think of them as the people I may NEED someday, when I decide to sell my collection. I would hate to have a potential customer quit the hobby because they got treated poorly on a message board. (I'm not insinuating that Bernie is "new", but I sense your frustration is with others on the board also.)
Give these posters a break and just skip the thread if it bothers you.

Now... You want my pet peeves?

I get ticked by people who come on the B/S/T looking to buy and then don't respond to your email.

I hate it when you respond to a post with a list of what you have available and the "buyer" starts trimming his list, because he can't afford to make the purchase.

And I hate it when you buy a card, it arrives and it has been severely overgraded. But I especially don't like it when that seller doesn't respond to your emails after the fact. (The seller knows who I am talking about.)

But none of them are enough to start calling people "idiots."
