I know I am bringing attention to the auction, but would rather not be burnt by a fake.

Thanks,
Lance

Posted By: fkw
Its a stamp, it would be hard to reproduce.

A few years back there were quite a few untorn perforated sheets of these on eBay. Must have been a small hoard of them discovered in last 10-15 years.

Posted By: davidcycleb
The perforations look just like the perforations on others. That's a good sign, as identical perforations would be hard to forge-- most forgers wouldn't even try. I actually counted the number of perforations under the "Postaco" on the bottom of the Cobb and on the bottom of a different one offered by Mike Wheat ... same number of 'ridges.'

Posted By: Lance
It was the perforations that scared me. I only had the Standard Cat. togo by and they didn't show up. I know I probably shot myself in the foot, but thanks for the quick help.

Lance

Posted By: Dave S
Lance...I'm one of the underbidders and fairly sure it's authentic. Think if you check some of the other active bidders you'll re-assure yourself. Good luck..

Posted By: Lance
Thanks Dave. Does SGC grade these? I think I will hold on to this one awhile. And again, thanks to everyone who posted. It really did determine whether or not I went after this card.

Posted By: davidcycleback
It's a cataloged and well known issue, so I would imagine both SGC and PSA grades the stamps.

Posted By: Bruce Babcock
I don't know this issue so my opinion is worth nothing, however . . . it does look a bit different than the example posted at Old Cardboard.

http://www.oldcardboard.com/o/stamps/postaco/postaco.asp?cardsetID=1079

Look at the innermost white border directly next to the yellow background. There is no white at all at the top of the OC example. The ebay example actually looks more authentic to me than the OC example!

Posted By: Rhett Yeakley
Bruce, I think the inner white border on the Cobb in the auction is due to the fact that that one offered had the yellow printed background better centered than both my yellow background example and the one on Old Cardboard.
-Rhett

Posted By: Bruce Babcock
I'm sure you're right, Rhett. We are used to centering problems with cards but I hadn't expected to find that problem with stamps. So this ebay pickup is a particularly nice example. Nice pickup.
