I haven't been looking for them for any great length of time and I don't search for them on a regular basis, but out of all the OJ's on ebay at any given time there are usually no Louisville players. On occasion an auction house will have a group of them and they aren't exactly cheap from what I've seen. There are some big names, like Browning and Cross, and some cool names, like "Chicken" Wolf and Dude Esterbrook, but that can't be the whole reason. Are they just plain tough or just heavily collected or both? I know people are tight lipped regarding OJ's, but any info would be great.

Posted By: <b>Tom Boblitt</b><p>are tougher than the norm. Collected them for quite a while (living in Louisville) and had about 25 when I sold most of my OJ's off a few years back. I had (3) Brownings. The mgr card of Kelly (I think) is probably the toughest or one of the toughest. I've been told only a couple are known. Shannon is another one of the tougher cards as well. I had 2-3 N173 OJ Cabinets and 7 'proofs' as well. 6 on Scholten Studios mounts from St. Louis and one on a Wybrant mount from Louisville. Bought 4 of the proofs from an Oregon trail auction and 2 of them from Lipsets. Don't really remember where the Wybrant cabinet came from. It was Farmer Vaughan I believe. Liked the Wybrant cabinet the most. Will post some of the proof pictures here later when I have access to my external hard drive with photos on it. I don't know the tough poses from the team and I seriously doubt any light will be shed on that in this thread by anyone in the know but as with all of the OJ's there are tough poses of easy players that are closely held to the vest of just a few with the knowledge. <br /><br />

Sure others exist because many of the Vaughan poses have the same look and backdrop as this Tomney....<br />

He won 139 games during his 11 year career. Posted By: <b>Jay</b><p>Bruce--They are both tougher than average but I think in general Maroons are tougher. The most important point though is that there is tremendous variation within each. There are some Maroons, like Schoeneck, that are not much tougher than average and others, like Boyd, who are very tough.

As far as I know each has only one known copy.<br />Eric--Nice start on the set. The script Esterbrook card in your registry set, however, is not a Louisville card.

Posted By: <b>Joe_G.</b><p>Fabulous cards, a great but tough team to collect.<br /><br />The N172 Script cards of Esterbrook (2 different) show him in a NY Giants uniform. Esterbrook has a total of 7 poses of which less than half can be found with Louisville. As stated above, 2 of the 7 poses were taken as a NY Giant in 1886. Then at least 4 of the remaining 5 poses as an Indianapolis Hoosier in 1888. The final and 7th pose my actually have been taken while he was a Louisville Colonel. The other poses that show him with Louisville are "team change" cards. He also has some 1890 NY Giant "team change" cards. Esterbrook did a lot of bouncing around.
